Within hours of Minnesota State Sen. Nicole Mitchell (DFL -Woodbury) announcing that she will be resigning her office on August 4, one candidate stepped forward in hopes of winning the seat once the governor calls a special election. State Rep. Amanda Hemmingsen-Jaeger, a DFLer, has represented House District 47A, which includes parts of Woodbury and Maplewood, since 2022.
Mitchell is resigning following her conviction on one count of felony burglary and one count of felony possession of burglary tools after being arrested inside her stepmother’s house in April 2024.
Hemmingsen-Jaeger said in a news release she will make a formal announcement soon. “In the meantime, I am connecting with constituents so that I can make sure that I represent their needs to the best of my ability.” she said. “I will continue to advocate for south Maplewood and Woodbury, bringing their voices to the Capitol. I will have more to say soon, and I look forward to earning your support.”
Woodbury, with 78,538 residents, is Minnesota’s seventh-largest city, while Maplewood ranks 25th with 39,958 residents.* Senate District 47 covers Woodbury and a slice of Maplewood.
