The City of Woodbury is looking for residents interested in adopting without hefty fees or background checks. There are storm drains all over town in need of families and individuals to look after them. While the drains may not be as sweet as babies or as cute as puppies, they are definitely easier to keep clean than an adopted highway.
The Adopt-a-Drain program protects lakes, rivers and groundwater from pollution. Adopters agree to keep their drain free of trash, leaves and other debris, reducing street flooding, organic contaminants and algae blooms. Just two 15-minute visits a month should keep the drain you choose clean. It’s so simple that you may even want to consider adopting twins when you go to the program website to sign up.
The cities of Woodbury and Cottage Grove are currently competing to see whose residents can adopt more drains by the end of May. This friendly competition will help keep Washington County’s water resources clean for the babies, puppies and residents who rely on them.
