Voters in Independent School District 622 rejected two ballot measures seeking to hike the district’s 2026 operating levy and authorize an additional $2 million annual capital levy to improve classroom technology and security.
According to the Minnesota Secretary of State’s Office, Tuesday’s preliminary election results for the measures were:
– Ballot Question 1, to cancel the district’s existing $1,019-per-student operating levy and replace it with an additional $946 per-student for a total of $1,965: No – 7,901 votes, or 58.05 percent; Yes – 5,709 votes, or 41.95 percent.
– Ballot Question 2, which would have authorized the $2 million annual capital levy through 2036: No – 7,558 votes, or 55.57 percent; Yes – 6,044 votes, or 44.43 percent
The district estimated that Question 1 would have added an average of about $22 per month to taxes on a $300,000 home, while Question 2 would have hiked the same tax bill by an average $4 per month.
According to the district website’s “Levy 2025” page, ISD 622 has not sought an operating levy increase for the last 10 years.
The Minnesota Secretary of State’s Office also reported the following preliminary Special Election results for an at-large seat on the ISD 622 School Board:
Sam Rosemark 7,198 votes, 62.51 percent
Justin Middaugh 4,121 votes, 35.79 percent
Write-In 196 votes, 1.70 percent
