More than 4,300 fire hydrants in Woodbury require testing, inspection and flushing to ensure they are operational for firefighting.
The Public Works Department plans to begin the flushing process this week, weather permitting, and complete it within the next eight weeks.
Flushing hydrants can disturb sediment and cause it to flow into homes, discoloring tap water. The discolored water remains safe to drink. If your water is discolored, it is recommended to avoid using it for laundry to prevent staining clothes.
Running cold water from the faucet should clear the discoloration. If clothes are stained from an inadvertent wash in sediment-filled water, do not dry them. Simply rewashing the load with clear tap water should remove the stains.
