Washington County has opened registration for its annual spring ambassador program, which is a free, six-week course to turn local volunteers into waste-reduction experts.
The program kicks off March 19 with a dive into the world of sustainability. Participants will move beyond basic “blue bin” knowledge to explore topics like food scrap recycling, climate change, environmental justice and the proper handling of household hazardous waste.
Program Highlights:
- When: Thursdays, March 19 – April 23, from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.
- Where: Primarily virtual (Zoom), with two immersive in-person tours of local waste facilities.
- Commitment: Graduates agree to volunteer roughly 20 hours per year, representing the county at community events, festivals, and educational workshops.
The training is open to Washington County and Ramsey County residents interested in making a tangible impact on the local environment. With limited spots available, officials encourage early sign-ups to ensure a seat in the spring cohort.
Residents can learn more and apply online through the Washington County Education Resources page or by contacting Public Health & Environment at 651-430-6655.
