The Washington County Board of Commissioners approved a $423,400 contract Jan. 6 with Alliant Engineering to begin design work on improvements at the intersection of Valley Creek Road and Settlers Ridge Parkway in Woodbury.
The project will convert the existing all-way stop into a roundabout, a change intended to improve safety, traffic flow and multimodal access along County State Aid Highway 16. County officials say the updated intersection will include ADA-compliant pedestrian and bicycle crossings and is expected to reduce crash potential by eliminating left-turn conflicts.
Plans also aim to decrease congestion, vehicle idling and emissions, while improving drainage and surface water management in the area.
Alliant Engineering was selected from eight proposals submitted for the project. The scope of their work will include project management, public engagement, utility coordination, environmental documentation, permitting, cost estimates and final construction plans.
Design work will be funded through Transportation Advancement Account Safety and Trails funds and local contributions from the city of Woodbury. Construction, supported by $2.38 million in federal funding, is scheduled for 2028.
