MINNEAPOLIS (WNN) – William Michael Haslach, 30, Maplewood, a former employee of Independent School District #622 (North St. Paul—Maplewood—Oakdale) and ISD #834 (Stillwater Area), has been charged with receipt and possession of child pornography as well as production of an obscene visual representation of child sexual abuse. The charges were announced in a news release by Acting U.S. Attorney Lisa D. Kirkpatrick.
The news release said from August 2021 until January 2025, Haslach served as a lunch monitor and traffic guard for Independent School District #622 (North St. Paul—Maplewood—Oakdale). Also, from 2021 through 2024, Haslach also served as a paraprofessional and later as a youth summer programs assistant for Independent School District #834 (Stillwater).
These are new charges on top of Haslach previously being charged in state court in January 2025.
The Federal prosecutors allege Haslach used his access to children to take non-explicit photos of children in his care. Haslach then used those images to produce morphed/AI photos of those minors engaging in sexually explicit conduct.
The Department of Justice believes Haslach may distributed some of the morphed/AI photos writing, “Agents are working to determine whether and to what extent Haslach distributed these morphed/AI images. Currently, there are strong indications that he did.”
Haslach has not been charged with any “hands-on” sexual abuse. Agents are working to determine the answer if there was any.
The Stillwater Area School District released a statement on the arrest. It in part explained where he worked, “Haslach was hired consistent with district procedures, and previously worked as an assistant in our summer school age care program. During the summer of 2021 he worked at Stillwater Middle, in 2022 at Lake Elmo Elementary, in 2023 at Oak-Land Middle and in 2024 at Lake Elmo Elementary. His last date of employment with us was in August 2024. He was never employed during the regular school year.”
Haslach is also accused of possessing and received child pornography involving children that were abused by others.
Investigators believe there may be other victims relevant to this investigation. The federal indictment charges Haslach with five counts of receipt of child pornography, five counts of possession of child pornography, and one count of production of an obscene visual representation of child sexual abuse. Haslach made his initial appearance February 26, 2025 in U.S. District Court. He was ordered to remain in custody pending a formal detention hearing on Monday, March 3.
This case is the result of an investigation conducted by the United States Secret Service, Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension, and the Maplewood Police Department.
