NEA Big Read in the St. Croix Valley. Throughout the month of April, ArtReach will work with area libraries and other multidisciplinary partners to host programs and events revolving around Kevin Wilson’s unpredictable novel Nothing to See Here. The book challenges readers to reconsider neurodiversity, self-control, and caregiving. This annual one-book, one-community program brings residents from across the valley together to share in the experience of reading a single book.
Braver Angels Common Ground Workshop on Immigration: Turn Talk into Action, Tuesday, April 1, 6 p.m. to 9 p.m., Eastridge High School Media Center, 4200 Pioneer Drive, Woodbury. Host: East Metro Alliance. Register – We need 5-7 Red and 5-7 Blue panel participants. Observers are welcome. We need more Reds (those who lean conservative). We have a sufficient number of Blue panel participants. This workshop brings together equal numbers of Red and Blue participants. Participants will engage in four exercises designed to identify personal connections to the issue, policy stances, discover common ground, and find unanimous Points of Agreement. A pre-read will be sent to registrants to acquaint them with some basic information that has been agreed to by both sides.

Community Day of Service: A Day of Giving Back, Saturday, April 5, from 10 a.m. to noon, Inver Grove Heights Community Center, 8055 Barbara Ave, Inver Grove Heights, Minn. The Lions Clubs of Cottage Grove, Hastings Rivertown, South St. Paul, South St. Paul Southwest Lioness, St. Paul Park Newport, and Woodbury are inviting the community to join them for a Community Day of Service. This free event offers families and individuals the chance to get involved in a variety of hands-on service projects that make a meaningful impact on the community. In addition, children can receive free vision screenings during the event.

Many Fronts: Poetry and Memorials at the Capitol Mall, Friday, April 18, 1 p.m. to 3 p.m., provides participants an opportunity to reflect on the experiences and perspectives of service members, veterans, and civilians in how we understand the nature of military conflicts, and how the public remembers and interprets the experience of war and service through memorials, monuments, and ekphrastic poetry. The program will include an interactive writing activity and participants will have the opportunity to share their stories and experiences. Participants will meet in the Veterans Service Building and then walk to the Lower Capitol Mall, where most of the program will occur. Most of this event will take place outdoors, weather permitting. In case of inclement weather, the program will be conducted indoors at the Veterans Service Building. This event is presented in partnership with Veterans Telling Stories – a Minnesota-based nonprofit and Warrior Writers, a national nonprofit. Free but registration is required.
Breakfast with the Bunny, Saturday, April 19, 8:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., Eagle Valley Golf Course, 2600 Double Eagle Ln, Woodbury. This event is sponsored by Woodbury Parks & Recreation. Come dance and take pictures with the bunny while enjoying breakfast and creating a craft. $20 fee includes a hot breakfast buffet from Ze’s Diner, one craft, and pictures with the bunny. Registration is required for all people eating breakfast.
