WOODBURY, MN (WNN) – The bald eagle found injured on Woodbury Drive has fully recovered and was set free on July 4 in a Woodbury park.
The University of Minnesota’s Raptor Center said in a social media post that the eagle was released at a park a bit south of the nest location. The Center said he will likely return to the nest if his mate accepts him.
The eagle, who has become a social media sensation, was found seriously injured in mid-May. According to an earlier news release from the center, besides internal trauma, the eagle was suffering from tissue swelling in the left shoulder and hip, and bruising around the right eye. He received intensive critical care treatments, including oxygen therapy.
After a passerby reported the bird standing in the roadway but unable to move, Woodbury Police Officer Andrew Mattson collected the bird and took him to the Raptor Center for care and rehabilitation.
“Thank you for taking the time to lend this bird a helping hand,” the Raptor’s message to a Facebook group administrator stated. “We would not be able to do what we do for wild raptors without help from people like you.”
