WOODBURY, MN & MINNEAPOLIS (WNN) – University of Minnesota student Mya Hooten, a Woodbury native, was named a nominee for the AAI Award.
The AAI Award is regarded as the Heisman Trophy of women’s gymnastics. It is presented to the nation’s most outstanding senior.
NCAA head coaches submitted nominations for the candidate or candidates of their choice. There were 59 nominees for this year.
After the initial nominations, the field is narrowed to the top six student-athletes.
Hooten, a Graduate Student, was also named an AAI Award nominee in 2024.
She is a seven-time WCGA All-American and a four-time NCAA Championships All-American.

Hooten won two NCAA Regional titles and six Big Ten titles (three floor, two vault, one bars) in her career. The four-time All-Big Ten honoree has hit nine perfect 10s in her career on floor.
“Every year, the AAI Award reminds us of the incredible impact these athletes have on collegiate gymnastics. It’s not just about their performance, but their leadership, resilience, and the way they inspire others,” said Lisa Ebersole, Senior Marketing Manager for AAI. “We’re proud to be part of recognizing their hard work and dedication. This year’s nominees exemplify the very best of the sport, and we are excited to see how their legacies continue to shape the future of gymnastics.”
The award is named for its sponsor American Athletic Inc.
