Three incumbents and one newcomer won seats on the South Washington County ISD 833 School Board Tuesday night.
Newly elected Elizabeth Bockman Eckberg received the highest percentage of votes at 15.37 percent.
Incumbents Katie Schwartz, Sharon Van Leer and Louise Hinz also finished among the top four by comfortable margins – 15.22 percent, 14.52 percent and 14.46 percent, respectively.
Tuesday’s preliminary election results for all nine SoWashCo, ISD 833, School Board candidates, according to the Minnesota Secretary of State’s Office:
- Elizabeth Bockman Eckberg 11,843 15.37%
- Katie Schwartz 11,729 15.22%
- Sharon H Van Leer 11,189 14.52%
- Louise Hinz 11,147 14.46%
- Juan Huerta 8,137 10.56%
- Lori Pecchia Michalski 7,290 9.46%
- Bryn Forstner 6,896 8.95%
- Chad Borseth 5,262 6.83%
- Travis Dahle 3,265 4.24%
- Write-In 313 0.41%
Bockman Eckberg is a former secondary science teacher in ISD 833 who described herself in a Woodbury News Net candidate questionnaire as a lifelong educator who believes that all students deserve to feel belonging and success at school.

Hinz, now retired, was a respected ISD 833 math teacher, while Van Leer, who joined Mitchell Hamline School Of Law in 1991, is currently director of the school’s Culture and Inclusion Office.


Schwartz, the current school board chair, is a Park High School graduate who was first elected to the school board in 2013.

The four winning candidates were endorsed by the district’s teachers union.
