United Way of Washington County-East’s annual Stuff the Bus initiative will be held Tuesday, Aug. 5. The initiative has set a goal of providing 775 backpacks filled with school supplies for students in District 834 to ease the burden many families face.
This year’s event is earlier than usual due to the Stillwater Area School District’s new start date of Monday, Aug. 18.
“The Stuff the Bus efforts in the Stillwater Area Schools have been so incredibly valuable to our community,” said Nate Cox, Activities Director of Stillwater Area Public Schools. “Family resources for supplies that help students succeed in the classroom have continued to rise over the years, and we have many students and parents who need the community to come alongside them to provide the tools needed in the classroom.”
This annual initiative depends on the generosity and compassion of the community. Monetary donations to help purchase needed items can be made online here. Donations of new school supplies can also be made at drop-off locations in Stillwater. Volunteers are also needed to help sort supplies and stuff backpacks on Aug. 5 from 8:30 a.m. to 10 a.m. Interested volunteers can contact “bus driver” Erin McQuay at 651-439-3838 ext. 4 or email [email protected].
