Over $1 million in federal funding for three area school districts suspended earlier this month is now expected to be released.
The Trump administration said the funding was being reviewed to ensure it aligned with its priorities. The Associated Press reported the Office of Management and Budget has completed that review and will begin sending the money to states this week.
Minnesota will receive $74 million of the $6 billion that had been suspended. Students in Woodbury attend school in three districts that had funding frozen:
- $583,000 for North St. Paul-Maplewood-Oakdale Schools (District 622)
- $330,000 for South Washington County Schools (District 833)
- $233,000 for Stillwater Area Schools (District 834)
Several lawsuits challenging the funding freeze had been filed. Members of both parties called for the money to be released. Congress had appropriated the money in a bill signed this year by President Trump, the AP reported, adding the funding is for English language instruction, adult literacy, and other programs.
