Washington County plans to open its new building in Woodbury Monday, Aug. 25, and officials say it will boost sustainability, services, and accessibility. A ribbon-cutting is planned for Tuesday, Aug. 26.
The Washington County Central Service and License Center, located at 1261 Woodlane Dr., will replace the current license center on Radio Drive by Woodbury City Hall. That building will be demolished as part of Woodbury’s plan to build a public safety campus.
The new $29 million center will offer additional services including:
- Licensing services, such as motor vehicle registration, state IDs, driver’s licenses, and passports.
- Human services including crisis intervention, financial support, and veteran services.
- CareerForce workforce development services.
- Public health clinic and Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) services.
- Household medication drop box.
- Election services.
- Property taxes and homesteading.
Several changes in services will be needed on the days surrounding the move. CareerForce services, veteran services, and in-person Community Services appointments will be offered at the R.H. Stafford Library (available during normal library hours) on Friday August 22. Licensing services will be available at the current Woodbury location only until 12:30 p.m. on August 22. Community members can access these services at other county License Centers after 12:30 p.m. that day. Click here more information on Service and License Center hours, locations, and wait times.
WIC and immunization services will begin in early September. WIC appointments can be made now by calling 651-430-6658, and immunization appointments can be made here or by calling 651-430-4036.
According to a news release from Washington County, sustainability was a key focus of the central service center. Residents who use the building or attend the ribbon cutting ceremony can use electric vehicle chargers in the parking lot. Sustainable elements were also incorporated in the building materials, a rooftop solar photovoltaic array, stormwater runoff design, and indoor air handling and lighting systems.
The center’s proximity to many transportation options will provide easy access for people in nearby Oakdale, Landfall, and Woodbury, and the building’s amenities will make it easy for people to get the services they need regardless of age or ability. The new building is across the street from Woodlane Drive Station Park & Ride serving the Gold Line Bus Rapid Transit line and is within the service area of the Metro micro shared ride service.
