Within hours of Minnesota State Sen. Nicole Mitchell (DFL -Woodbury) announcing that she will be resigning office on August 4, candidates are throwing their hats into the ring to be the next representative from Woodbury. Sen. Mitchell is resigning following her conviction on a felony burglary and a felony possession of burglary tools charge at her stepmother’s house in April 2024.
A special election will be held soon to fill Sen. Mitchell’s seat.
First off the bat was Amanda Hemmingsen-Jaeger, the house representative from District 47A, who represents parts of Woodbury and Maplewood. In a press release, Hemmingsen-Jaeger said:
It has been my honor to represent 47A in the Minnesota House of Representatives since 2022, and it is my intention to run in the upcoming special election to represent District 47 as its next Senator. I will make a formal announcement very soon. In the meantime, I am connecting with constituents so that I can make sure that I represent their needs to the best of my ability. I will continue to advocate for south Maplewood and Woodbury, bringing their voices to the Capitol. I will have more to say soon, and I look forward to earning your support.
Woodbury, with 78,538 residents, is Minnesota’s seventh-largest city, while Maplewood ranks 25th with 39,958 residents.*
