Washington County wants the public’s input to develop a Climate Action Plan that will define its role in climate action, outline steps to reduce its greenhouse gas emissions, and detail strategies to adapt to the impacts of climate change.
In a news release, county staff shared an invitation for residents to complete a short survey found here. Questions include asking respondents how important climate change is to them, how aware of issues around climate change they are, and whether the county should emphasize emissions reductions or mitigation measures. The results will help the county understand what its priorities should be to address climate change. The survey will be available through September.
The process to develop the action plan will have three phases:
- Define priorities from June to October
- Set Goals from November to January
- Develop strategies from February to next June
The county says the plan will include actions it can take as well as steps residents can pursue on their own.
Public participation is also needed on the Community Advisory Group, which will be involved at key stages throughout the planning process and will shape the Climate Action Plan’s priorities and recommendations. This working group will include four community members as well as local government partners and community organizations. To apply to serve on the advisory group, complete this questionnaire by August 6.
