WOODBURY, MN (WNN) – The Stillwater Area High School Ponies prevailed at last week’s Suburban East Conference Track and Field Championships, taking home first place trophies in both the boys’ and girls’ team competitions. The meet was held at White Bear Lake High School on May 22 and featured strong performances from athletes across the region.
In a display of depth, the Stillwater boys and girls teams each secured the top spot on the podium, affirming the school’s reputation in high school track and field.
Pony eighth grade standout Ari Riser, a resident of Woodbury, set a new conference record in the 400m. Riser was also on the Pony girls 4x200m relay as it set a new SEC record.
Tyler Curnow, another Pony hailing from Woodbury, set a new conference record in the discus throw.
Woodbury High School delivered a solid performance, with the boys team earning a fourth-place finish, while the girls team came in sixth. Both East Ridge’s boys and girls teams finished in eighth place.
The conference meet followed the previous week’s Boys True Team State Meet, where the Ponies won the first-place trophy for the first time since 1997. Minnesota is the only state which holds a True Team competition in Track and Field, recognizing overall team depth rather than just top individual performances.
At this week’s sectional meets teams hope to qualify for the state championships on June 10-12 at St. Michael-Albertville High School.
