WOODBURY, MN (WNN) – R.H. Stafford Library and other libraries in Washington County begin their rewarding summer reading programs for kids, teens, and adults Sunday.
“Summer is traditionally a busy time at libraries, where extra activities can help encourage reading and neutralize summer learning loss for kids and teens while school is out,” a county news release states. “These programs and activities also encourage library users of all ages to become lifelong readers and learners.”
Kids: Kids ages 0-11 can take a summer adventure trip with an alien friend, Zorb. The program features reading, learning, listening, and exploring in a flexible program that can be tailored to each child’s needs and interests.
Teens: A video-themed program, “Level Up!,” is aimed at teenagers ages 12-18. It includes reading, crafting, cooking, and gaming.
Adults: Fun is planned for adults as well. The 10,000 Experiences at Your Library program boasts librarian-recommended reads to check out.
Summer readers are given game cards and check off each challenge they’ve completed. The cards can be turned in to the library for a reward. Each game card also serves as an entry into a drawing for a chance to win grand prizes.
Several performers will visit county libraries throughout the summer. They include The Bazillions, A Touch of Magic, Bill the Juggler, Miss Nina, and F1rst Wrestling, and more. Programs are free and open to the public, although some require registration.
The programs conclude Aug. 16.
