WOODBURY, MN (WNN) – Don’t be surprised if you see Woodbury roundabouts crammed with limos on Saturday! And while that statement comes with tongue firmly in cheek, both East Ridge and Woodbury High Schools are sponsoring proms for their juniors and seniors on that evening.
The East Ridge Prom deals a Casino Royale theme offering Blackjack, Texas Hold ‘Em, and even Yahtzee for the celebrants. The dance will be held at the Intercontinental Riverfront Hotel on Kellogg Boulevard in St Paul.
Woodbury High School students will spend an Enchanted Royal evening just down the street from the Raptors at the Landmark Center.
South Washington County Schools has instituted procedures to best manage the events. Student IDs are required for admission. The proms are hosted for 11th and 12th graders with just one guest per student. Young people from outside the district must submit guest forms in advance. WHS requires that any guest older than 19 meet with an assistant principal before purchasing a ticket. East Ridge bans large bags, only permitting small clear purses.
Prom can be a fun evening making memories with friends and classmates. But parents are encouraged to have discussions with their children about safety issues especially about the risks of alcohol and of distracted driving. The National Highway Traffic Administration offers safety tips here.
Students from the Math and Science Academy, New Life Academy and Tartan and Stillwater Area High Schools will dance at their proms in May.
