WOODBURY, MN (WNN) – Woodbury resident Greig Metzger is ready for a new chapter as he retires as Executive Director for the nonprofit Little Free Library.
During his six years with the organization, Metzger saw the number of Little Free Library locations around the world grow from 100,000 to 200,000.
Little Free Library (LTF) is a global network of volunteer-led, book-exchange boxes. Its mission is to build community, inspire readers, and expand book access, especially in high need neighborhoods and communities.
More than 35 Little Free Library book-sharing boxes are located in neighborhoods and businesses throughout Woodbury.
Greig Metzger is a familiar face to the local nonprofit community having served as Executive Director of Christian Cupboard Emergency Food Shelf (now renamed Open Cupboard).
In 2018, he was instrumental in relocating the program to a new location and building on the Guardian Angels Church campus. Metzger and his wife Ann Marie are 28-year residents of Woodbury.
A celebration held last week at the Science Museum of Minnesota marked the milestone of the 200,000th LFL being installed at Benjamin E. Mays IB World School in St Paul’s Rondo neighborhood. Metzger’s leadership was also recognized.

“When we place a Little Free Library in a neighborhood, we’re doing so much more than offering books,” Metzger shared with attendees. “We’re creating access. We’re opening doors that might otherwise be closed. And we’re sparking a love of reading that can transform a child’s future, uplift a struggling community, and bring people together in ways we never imagined,” he added.
Metzger closed by sharing a personal memory of the books he received as gifts while growing up. “A book in the hands of a child isn’t just a book—it’s a tool of empowerment,” he shared. “It’s a chance to dream bigger, to learn more, and to see beyond the limits of circumstance. Together, we are building something that will last for generations. And I can’t think of a better legacy than that.”
