WOODBURY, MN (WNN) – The Woodbury Water Treatment Plant and Pipeline Project is the largest public infrastructure project in Woodbury history.
It will take the next several years to complete. It will also lead to many rolling road closures around Woodbury.
The city approved a plan to treat all groundwater wells with a 32 million gallons per day (MGD) water treatment plant, the addition of two new wells, and more than 17 miles of distribution pipelines.
With this project, it is anticipated that the improvements will treat not just PFAS but other emerging contaminants for the foreseeable future. It will allow Woodbury to meet current and projected drinking water standards.
There will be a number of road closures and traffic delays, mostly scheduled between April and July:
- Tower Drive at Valley Creek Road. The eastern lane will be closed, and the western lane controlled by flaggers during the day.
- Valley Creek Road from City Center Drive to Tower Drive. A single westbound lane will be closed.
- Valley Creek Road from Colby Lake Drive to Donegal Drive, closed.
- Interlachen Parkway from Valley Creek Road to Pioneer Drive, closed.
- Pioneer Drive from Timberwood Road to just south of Savanna Oaks Pass, closed.
- Pioneer Drive from Radio Drive to Timberwood Road, closed to through traffic.
- Valley Creek Road from Settlers Ridge Parkway to Woodcrest Drive, closed.
- Valley Creek Road from Woodbury Drive to Woodcrest Drive, closed to through traffic.
- Cottage Grove Drive between Woodcrest Drive and Eagle View Boulevard, closed to through traffic.
The total cost of the water treatment plant and associated pipelines is estimated to be around $330 million.
More than $300 million of costs will be covered by the state’s settlement agreement with 3M.
More than $3 million in federal funding will also help pay for the full project.
Woodbury city staff is seeking outside funding to support the city-funded portion of the project as it continues.
