WOODBURY, MN & UNION, IL (WNN) – An 89-year-old woman from Woodbury was pronounced dead following a two-vehicle crash near Union, Illinois on March 16.
The victim’s name has not yet been released.
Union is about 60-miles Northwest of Chicago.
The McHenry County Sheriff’s Office reports the crash happened in the 17100 block of Illinois Route 176 around 9:25 a.m. on March 16.
The preliminary investigation indicates a 2007 Kia Sportage, driven by a 40-year-old Marengo, Ill. man, was traveling eastbound on Illinois Route 176 while a 2016 Mazda CX-5, driven by a 64-year-old Crystal Lake, Ill. man, was traveling westbound on Illinois Route 176.
The vehicles were involved in a head-on crash with both vehicles remaining on the highway.
The Woodbury woman was in the Mazda.
The driver of the Mazda was transported to the hospital in critical condition.
The Sheriff’s Office initial report says they believe weather may have been a factor in the crash.
There were near white-out conditions at the time of the crash. Investigation of the crash is on-going.
