WOODBURY, MN (WNN) – An Indoor slide and trampoline park – Slick City – is planning to open in northeast Woodbury at 587 Settlers Ridge Parkway.
Mike and Annie Kelley submitted an application for the new recreational center that was approved this week by the Woodbury Planning Commission.
The first Slick City in Minnesota opens next week in Maple Grove.
“We’re very, very excited to be part of this community,” Mike Kelley said.
The Woodbury park will occupy 50,000 square feet of a 180,000 square foot industrial building approved by the Woodbury City Council in April 2022.
Mike Kelley told commissioners it’s not easy to find a space with the 28-foot ceilings that Slick City needs for its amusements. “You don’t get many opportunities like that in a traditional retail center,” Kelley said.
The business will feature 14 slides, two sports courts, play areas, two party rooms, a café, and an acrobat alley with trapeze, swing, and zipline.
Slick City will be open 363 days a year and require that children be supervised by an adult.
Some commissioners expressed concerns about parking but the location does meet the city’s parking requirements. Kelley said the indoor park will be most in demand on weekends, which is the off-peak time for the other tenant in the building, easing parking congestion.
Slick City was founded in Denver in 2022 and now has 10 corporate locations and 35 franchisees in the United States.
The primary target market is families with children, teenagers, and corporate and school groups.
“There are going to be a lot of happy families when this opens,” commission chair Shannon Olsen said.
City documents state Mike Kelley has more than 20 years of financial and executive experience. He serves as the managing director and head of equity capital markets for Seaport Global Securities, an investment bank based in New York. Annie Kelley has 10 years of experience as an elementary school teacher before retiring to raise three children. She has experience with non-profit boards as well.
The city council is expected to consider the permit at its meeting Mar. 12.
