The Woodbury City Council has approved a new location for the Math and Sciences Academy (MSA) Charter School.
The new school would serve up to 1,525 students. The site is to be south of the Bailey Road and Fairway Drive intersection, about 1-mile west of Radio Drive. The construction includes a traffic signal at Bailey Road and Fairway Drive plus some smaller road additions specifically for school traffic. A sporting field on the south side of the site would also be constructed.
Construction on the new campus is slated to begin in April 2025 and be done by the start of 2026-27 school year.
Math and Science Academy is a public charter school that serves 6th through 12th grades. The current school serves approximately 730 students. School leaders say they have an extensive waiting list.
The new building would allow MSA to add kindergarten through 5th grade at its current location.
It opened at its current location on Woodbury Crossing near the intersection of Radio Drive and Pioneer Drive in 1999.
Council had to rezone the land from “Single-family estate district” to “Urban Reserve District“ to allow for the new building.
In 2024, the school was named the Best High School in Minnesota by US News.
