The Minnesota Department of Education (MDE) on Friday released the 2024-2025 reading and math test scores of Woodbury students in 3rd to 8th grades. The Minnesota Comprehensive Assessments (MCA) are taken online every spring, and composite scores are released during the State Fair.
The exams are only given in Minnesota, so they cannot be compared to other states. Each state writes its own standards and tests students to see if they are met. As a result, states can have low standards that yield high passing rates. Minnesota’s test scores dropped significantly in association with the Covid pandemic and have yet to return to earlier levels.
The accompanying table includes the scores from public schools located in Woodbury or attended by Woodbury students, More complete information about each school’s results, as well as trends over time, are available from the Department of Education.
The chart lists reading scores before math scores in the columns, along with district and state information. Since individual charter schools form their own districts, there is no additional district score.
The test scores are impacted by many variables, including the number of students who opt out or are absent, the presence of unique school offerings such as a gifted education program, the length of time students have attended a school, as well as many social and demographic factors.
Although some testing is done at high schools, variation in participation is so high that it is hard to reliably analyze those results, so they do not appear here.
