Fireworks are one of the highlights of Woodbury Days.
Woodbury’s annual fun fest and family extravaganza, Woodbury Days, takes place Aug. 22-24 this year.
In its 46th year, Woodbury Days continues to offer exciting new events to attract a greater turnout.
For the health aficionado, there will be a free session of Yoga in the Park – an outdoor yoga class led by Flostate Yoga and Fitness in partnership with Woodbury Thrives. This all-levels class is perfect for all ages. Just bring your own mat and a willingness to move! This will take place on Sunday, August 24th, from 9:00 a.m. – 10:00 a.m. in the Ojibway Bandshell Area.
The Sand Volleyball Tournament is back after a one-year hiatus. Organized and supported by the Woodbury Days Council, the tournament is focused on players 45 years and above. It will be facilitated by Yvette Alesso from Hastings, an experienced 45+ volleyball organizer. Saturday 8:00 am to 4:30 pm. Registration is required for the tournament, fee to register $30. The tournament will be at the beach-sand court located behind the Main Building and Band Shell.
A skateboard demonstration and tournament will happen on Saturday afternoon from noon – 6 pm at the skateboard park. The tournament will include multiple age groups and will have events for Best Run and Best Trick. This is being organized by Hang Time Board Shop from North Saint Paul and will include Ben Knox, a local skate celebrity. Prizes will also be awarded in different categories. There also will be an Open skate time from 4pm – 8pm on Friday
Try a new mocktail
Woodbury Days Council President Paul Huffman explains the latest festival drink: “We will have a new mocktail (drink with no alcohol) offering this year in a booth adjacent to the Info Booth near the Park Building and Taste of Woodbury.” Cove Mocktails are a new product from a business owner in Woodbury. There are two flavors: Sweet Strawberry with a hint of Lime and Juicy Pineapple with a hint of Lime. According to Cove Mocktails owner, Mindy Gray, “The idea is to provide an alternative to the traditional beverage options that we have had and reflect the increased interest in nonalcoholic beverages.” The Mocktails booth will be organized and staffed by the Woodbury Lions Club. Profits from the sale will be split between the Lions, to fund Lions Club programs, and Woodbury Days Council, to support the event.
Food in the Taste Tent will be along the lines of last year, but the tent will be a bit smaller. There will be two fewer spots for vendors, due to the space constraints in the Woodbury High School parking lot. Duck Donuts is “new,” returning after two years. Longtime Woodbury Days vendors Rocco’s Pizza and Mama Bear’s Sweets, which was new last year, are not returning this year.
Community Connections at the Business Fair
The Community Connections booth was very popular last year. Nonprofits and government service groups in Woodbury and Washington County could sign up for a two- or three-hour slot at no cost and get a chance to inform fairgoers about their organizations and activities. This year, there will be two booths for nonprofit organizations, and 12 entities have signed up to participate. These booths will be side-by-side near the playground and the carnival entrance. Be sure to stop by and check out these organizations helping local residents. Participating groups also include Woodbury News Net. Come and meet our team at the event.
Lotsa Music
“We are continuing to focus on and grow the paid music line-up, including more local or area (east metro) paid performances,” says Huffman. Hailey James Band (modern country), Gen X Jukebox (Music of the 90s tribute), Basic & Boring, East Metro Middle School/High School Classic Rock Band, Top Shelf Band (Hastings), West Side Band, and local music group Eldest Daughter are the many gigs lined up for your entertainment. On Saturday, Todd ‘N Tina, a popular kids’ band, will perform at the bandshell.
Saturday night, folks will be entertained with the popular fireworks at 9:30 pm.
Kids Activities will include the Kowalski’s Coin Hunt, Lego Build, and Woodbury Days Challenge. The Business Fair is always worth checking out to learn about Woodbury businesses and to collect a few goodies like pens, frisbees, etc. Old favorites like the 3M Cruisers Classic Car Show will show off classic beauties on Saturday morning. Carnival rides, fireworks on Saturday night, 3X3 Youth Basketball tournament on Sunday afternoon – the list of fun is voluminous. So be sure to visit Woodbury Days with friends and family. And remember to buy a Woodbury Days Button to get a chance to win prizes, entry to some kids’ activities and a dollar off at some food vendors.
Parade, Parking and Shuttle Options
Due to potential conflicts with construction projects at Woodbury High School, Woodbury Days added a shuttle lot at Bailey Elementary School, with a bus between Bailey Elementary and the south entrance to Ojibway Park. This shuttle will run on Saturday 9 a.m. – 11 p.m. and Sunday 11:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.
To help reduce traffic congestion at Red Rock Elementary School for the Grande Parade on Sunday morning, and to help participants and volunteers get to the parade start more easily, there will be a shuttle between Bailey Elementary and Red Rock Elementary 7:30 a.m. – 10:30 a.m. on Sunday. Parade participants and volunteers can park at Bailey Elementary, take the shuttle to the parade start, and take the shuttle from the park back to their vehicles at Bailey when the parade is done.
The large student lot (north lot) is available at Woodbury High School, however due to construction projects, we ask that people parking there come to the park by going around the south side of WHS. The west end of the south parking lot (staff/student parking) will be available for the general public.
