WOODBURY, MN (WNN) – The Woodbury Area Chamber of Commerce held its 39th Annual Scholarship Golf Tournament at Prestwick Golf Course June 2. The sold-out event brought together 132 golfers and more than 40 local business sponsors to support local youth and education.
Proceeds from the tournament fund scholarships for high school seniors in the Woodbury area, as well as support the YMCA’s youth summer programming. This year, nine students each received a $1,000 scholarship to pursue post-secondary education — whether at a college, university or vocational institution — this summer or fall.
Applicants were selected based on responses to essay questions exploring their community contributions. The students were asked to reflect on meaningful experiences in volunteering, school or work, and how they envision giving back through their future careers and civic involvement.
Laurie Staiger, president of the Woodbury Area Chamber, shared that while many may feel we are living in uncertain times, reviewing the scholarship applications, from nearly 20 students representing seven schools, gave her a reason to believe in the future.
“These students are passionate, resourceful, and filled with optimism. Their drive and creativity are a reminder that the future is in good hands,” she said.
