WOODBURY, MN (WNN) – Patrol Commander Tom Ehrenberg and other members of Woodbury’s police department climbed on the roof of Dunkin Donuts to support Special Olympics. Today’s Cop on a Roof event was a fundraiser sponsored by the Law Enforcement Torch Run in multiple Midwest states.
Blazing Stars is Woodbury’s Special Olympics team with over 100 athletes participating in events ranging from swimming to bowling and new this year: cornhole. The team provides sports training, athletic competition, physical activity, and social connections for athletes with intellectual and/or developmental disabilities. Many Blazing Stars team members live in South Washington County, however, all Special Olympic athletes over the age of 8 are welcome.
Funds raised by the cops support the program and participants who can’t afford the registration fees.
It was windy, and storms threatened as Ehrenberg waved to motorists on Valley Creek Road. Truly, the Woodbury police rose to the Special Olympics motto, “Let me win. But if I cannot win, let me be brave in the attempt.”
