WOODBURY, MN (WNN) – Get ready! Starting bright and early Thursday morning, thousands of garage sale shoppers will descend on Woodbury for one of the biggest community events of the year—the 48th Annual Woodbury Lions Garage Sale.
This springtime tradition is a dream come true for treasure seekers, with over 500 participating locations offering everything from household goods and clothing to toys, sporting equipment, and furniture. Whether you’re hunting for deals, decluttering your basement, or just enjoying the festive atmosphere, there’s something for everyone.
While registration fees and sponsorships help support the charitable work of the Woodbury Lions Club, the event is about much more than just shopping.
“It’s really a great cause, a kickoff for spring, and an opportunity to build community,” said John Anderson of the Woodbury Lions. “So many people tell us how they get to know their neighbors as they are out and about.”
Proceeds from the sale support vital causes like childhood cancer, diabetes, vision care, hunger initiatives, and local environmental efforts.
The Lions Club is also reminding residents and shoppers to prioritize safety during the event:
- Drive slowly through neighborhoods.
- Park respectfully—don’t block driveways.
- Be mindful of pedestrians and bikers.
- Back up slowly and stay alert.
Residents will want to be alert for drivers navigating unfamiliar streets and stopping suddenly when they see a promising sale. Your favorite lunch spot is also likely to be filled with folks from Wisconsin dining and gearing up for more bargain hunting.
Staff from the Woodbury Public Safety Department shared these tips for folks hosting garage
sales.
- Be aware of your family’s safety, your personal items, and cash from the sale.
- Don’t let anyone in your house.
- Learn how to recognize counterfeit money or use a counterfeit pen.
- Perform electronic transactions on your own phone and make sure they go through
before your shopper leaves. - Make sure your shoppers leave room for emergency vehicles and don’t park in front of
fire hydrants.
Want to plan your route? Printed directories are available for purchase at Kwik Trip, Holiday, and Speedway stores. They are also available for purchase here. The sale of directories supports Lions Club causes.
And if you find yourself with a little extra cash after a great sale? The Lions suggest you consider spending it at one of Woodbury’s many local small businesses—another great way to give back to the community.
