WOODBURY, MN (WNN) – In this edition of ASK WNN we’re addressing a question we’ve seen asked several times on social media. Why is South Washington County Schools spending so much money on construction instead of paying more to its staff?
We reached out to SoWashCo Superintendent Julie Nielsen for this answer: “The dollars that are being invested in construction were generated through the successful outcome of our bond campaign.
The amount approved by the voters needs to be used specifically for what the district shared in their plan. This included high school additions and renovations, middle school secured entry ways, elementary additions, and restrooms for our older elementary schools. Bond money can only be used to support the actual building and project work.
Staff salaries are paid out of our general fund, which is largely generated by our enrollment.”
More information on the construction projects can be found here.
